Tigercat Expands Forestry Lineup With Back-To-Back Equipment Releases
Less than a month after the release of its LSX870D, Tigercat adds the 880E logger to its lineup
With headquarters in Brantford, Ontario, and operating out of eleven southern Ontario locations, Tigercat has well established itself as a leader in Canada’s forestry equipment sector.
Outside of Canada, it has facilities for design, production, steel fabrication, administration, customer service and parts distribution in the US.
Also, Hede, Sweden is home to one of Tigercat’s sales, service and parts distribution facilities.
Lately, Tigercat has been busy adding to its wide range of forestry equipment. On July 28th, it announced the release of the LSX870D shovel logger. Subsequently, less than a month later, on August 26th, it announced the release of the 880E logger.
The LSX870D: power, speed and stability
Based on the popular LX870D series track carrier platform, this machine is designed for extreme duty, steep slope logging.
With the choice of attachments, including the new Tigercat BG13 grapple with a live heel boom or the SC08 shovel clam grapple, the LSX870D is suited to pre-bunching and shovel logging in challenging terrain.
The addition of the LSX870D aims to provide a higher power, closed loop drive alternative to the LS855E. The LS855E provides higher swing speed and lower ground pressure. However, the LSX870D allows for improved multifunctioning ability and quicker, more responsive travel speed.
The Tigercat FPT C87 engine supplies 245 kW (330 hp), providing plenty of multi-functioning power. Lift and reach capabilities for the LS855E and the LSX870D are identical.
Tigercat has integrated technologies and systems into its leveling track machines with the intention of optimizing them for a wide range of steep slope applications including shovel logging, felling and harvesting.
Tigercat’s leveling undercarriage is longer and wider, which it claims will provide exceptional stability on steep slopes. The patented leveling design uses two massive hydraulic cylinders and heavy steel sections. It leans into the hill when levelling to the side to improve machine stability and operator comfort. Tigercat believes that it has set itself apart from the competition with this system.
The 880E: multifunctional, with a focus on comfort
The 880E logger is a multi-purpose forestry carrier with configuration options for loading, shovel logging or processing applications.
Also, it boasts several new features. These include an updated operator’s station and various grapple configurations to tailor the machine to the specific needs of a job.
A Tigercat FPT N67 engine powers the 880E, producing 230 kW (308 hp). The F7-163 undercarriage is built with the intention of withstanding rigorous, full-time forestry applications, while offering proper stability.
In the cabin, operators can stay warm with a new heated seat. Tigercat integrates controls into both sides of the joystick pods, eliminating the need for any bolt-on control pods. Furthermore, Tigercat claims that the ergonomic positions of the controls and touchscreen will provide comfort for the operator during long sessions.
Also, in terms of audio comfort, Tigercat designed the interior with noise-reduction in mind, aiming to allow the operator to enjoy the auxiliary audio input port, Bluetooth® audio and hands-free calling.
Additional new features include a standard equipped rearVIEW camera system, emergency stop button, and a key fob to turn on exterior lights remotely when entering the cab in the dark.
The 880E can be setup as a loader, equipped with various power clam, butt-n-top and log grapple options. When equipped with a live heel boom system, Tigercat claims the 880E to be a highly capable shovel logger with excellent stability, tractive effort and swing torque. The carrier can also be setup as a high-capacity processor, capable of running large harvesting heads in demanding duty cycles.
According to Tigercat, there are many advantages to the 880E, as opposed to excavator conversions. These include better service access, higher cooling capacity, a better operating environment with superior sightlines, more robust undercarriage components and extremely efficient hydraulic circuits.
