Pettibone Intros New T1056X Sliding-Boom Telehandler with 5-Ton Capacity
Pettibone has expanded its line of telehandlers with horizontal sliding booms with the new 10,000-pound capacity Traverse T1056X.
The horizontal boom enables operators to place loads with fewer boom adjustments. It has a max lift height of 56.5 feet.
The boom slides forward on a hydraulic carriage up to 70 inches. The operator controls it by joystick and prevents having to drive forward to place the load.
The landing height is the same as the lift height, which is different than most other telehandlers. Pettibone says “traditional fixed-boom pivots typically have a true landing height that is several feet less than the promoted lift height, as the operator must account for withdrawing the forks out of the load with enough rearward travel for the fork tips to clear the landing zone.”
The T1056X has a forward reach of 45 feet 10 inches, including the boom’s 70 inches of horizontal slide.
The telehandler is built for rough terrain, with full-time four-wheel drive and limited-slip front axle differential. It runs on a 117-horsepower Cummins diesel engine that is mounted on a side pod for easier service access, improved visibility and ground clearance of 18 inches. The engine uses diesel exhaust fluid and selective catalytic reduction to meet Tier 4 Final emission standards.
The Dana Powershift transmission has three speeds, forward and reverse. Turning radius is 14 feet 4 inches. The T1056X has a max travel speed of 15.2 mph. Steering selections are four-wheel, two-wheel and crab.
The cab features ergonomic seat, pedal, joystick and steering wheel positions. It also has climate control, flat bolt-in glass, a split-door design, a rear window that can be opened, USB accessory plug, lockable storage under the seat, and water-resistant components for interior washdown. An analog LCD gauge cluster is standard. A 7-inch digital display with backup camera is optional.
To avoid jarring stops when extending and retracting the boom, Pettibone added cylinder cushioning. The T1056X uses a single lift cylinder for improved operator visibility. The four-piece boom is lighter yet has increased strength and reduces boom deflection.
Pettibone says it nearly doubled boom overlap from previous models for smoother operation and to increase the life of the wear pads under the horizontal boom’s carriage. A bottom-mounted external cylinder cuts the load on the wear pads in half and improves service access to internal boom components, the company says. The wear pads also do not require fasteners.
Axle-mounted outriggers are standard and are designed to give clear visibility to the fork tips. The chassis will sway independent of the outrigger system, the company says.
The 30-gallon fuel tank is made of damage-resistant steel as is the hydraulic tank. Other standard features on the telehandler include non-tensioned boom hoses, split-system electrical circuit panels, a 12-volt accessory plug in the engine bay, and heavy-duty LED lighting.
An optional tower attachment can extend the telehandler’s lift height by 10 feet. Tires can be solid or foam-filled. Other attachments include a sling hook, cubing tines, fork positioning carriage, lumber forks, pallet forks, side-tilt and side-swing carriages, truss boom and utility bucket.
